School Bus Services - Important Information

Dear Parent/Guardian

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, we would like to provide some important updates regarding our school bus services and the Wynyard High School bus stop.

Afternoon Bus Services:

Our bus stop experiences a significant amount of traffic between 3:00 PM and 3:35 PM each day, accommodating several connecting services. To enhance the safety and well-being of our students during this busy time, it is an expectation that Wynyard High School students waiting for buses utilise the undercover area with the duty teacher until their bus service arrives. This measure is in place to ensure student safety and overall well-being.

School Bus Services are managed by Department of State Growth – Passenger Transport and all students that utilise this service must adhere to the Passenger_Conduct_Code_for_School_Bus_Services.pdf (transport.tas.gov.au)

Safe Behaviour When Waiting for the Bus: We kindly remind all students and families to observe safe behaviours while waiting for the bus:

Waiting at the Stop: Please wait at the designated bus stop until your bus arrives, even if it is running late. This ensures that all students are accounted for and can board their buses safely.

Maintaining Order: It is essential to remain quiet and orderly while waiting for the bus, including at bus interchanges. This creates a calm and safe environment for all passengers.

Understanding Bus Overhang: Buses have an overhang at the front, which may extend slightly over the footpath when pulling into the stop. For your safety, please:

  • Students to wait in the designated bus area until the bus arrives and pulls up.
  • Stand well back from the road, maintaining one metre or more where possible, while waiting for the bus.
  • Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before approaching the door for boarding.
  • Allow other passengers to exit the bus before stepping onto it, forming a single line for orderly boarding.

Morning Bus Services:

We understand that some morning bus services arrive before staff commence duty at 8:20 AM each day. The department is actively working with State Growth to explore options available to support the supervision of students before 8:20 AM. We will keep you informed of any updates in this regard.

Your cooperation and support in adhering to these guidelines are greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding school bus services or safety protocols, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your continued partnership in prioritising the safety and well-being of our students.

Year 9/10 School Football

Dear Parent/Guardian

Your child has chosen to represent Wynyard High School in the North-Western Junior Football Union (NWJFU). Our school will be fielding a combined Year 9/10 team in the roster commencing week 2, Term 2. Games will take place during and after school on a Tuesday, with afterschool matches starting at 3:30pm and concluding at 5:00pm. While the school will provide transportation to playing venues during school hours, parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transport for their child/ren to and from venues outside of school hours.

Participation in the team requires students to adhere to our school's values and expectations. Failure to do so may affect their eligibility for selection. Your cooperation in ensuring our students represent Wynyard High School with integrity, sportsmanship, and respect both on and off the field is greatly appreciated.

Students are required to wear a provided football jumper during matches and are encouraged to wear navy blue shorts and socks. They also need football boots and a mouthguard.

Parent/guardian involvement as volunteers is welcomed, requiring Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration and Safeguarding Training. Please contact Mr Lee if interested in volunteering for the 2024 season.

Insurance coverage is provided to students of Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) schools, such as Wynyard, participating in school sporting teams. Government-funded Medicare is the primary cover in case of accidents, with private health insurance serving as secondary coverage. Parents/guardians remain responsible for any gap payments.

A roster has been distributed to students. Updates regarding roster changes, scores, and training will be communicated through school channels and the NWJFU website. You can also view the roster here - NWJFU_Senior_9_10_Roster.pdf

Registration is $20 and must be paid to the school. For students to participate, a Registration Form and an electronic permission form are required. Registration Forms will be distributed in person and the electronic permission can be completed here: Excursion Permission Form. These must be completed by Friday, 3 May.

For further inquiries, please contact Mr Lee on (03) 6442 2385 or email stuart.lee1@decyp.tas.gov.au

AGFEST 2024

Dear Parent/Guardian

Food and Fibre (Year 9/10) and Horticulture (Years 11/12) students will be travelling by bus to Agfest on Thursday, 2  May 2024. They will depart school at 8:00am and return by 3:00pm.  Hellyer College students will be picked up at Hellyer College at 8:30am and returned to Hellyer College at 2:30pm.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to explore vocational options and identify new opportunities within the horticulture and agricultural industries.

We encourage students to bring a packed recess and lunch; however, students may bring money to purchase food. There will also be opportunities to purchase other items at various stalls throughout the day. To support wellbeing and safety, students must be in full school uniform, except for shoes, as they will be required to walk around rough terrain. Students need to wear lace-up, enclosed, sturdy footwear and a hat and warm, waterproof jacket are recommended.

As this is a major excursion, you will need to provide permission using the following link: AGFEST Major Excursion Permission.

Permission is mandatory and all students MUST have this form returned by Tuesday, 30 April 2024. Students who do not have consent via these forms will remain at school for the day.

If your circumstances have changed from the beginning of the year or you have any queries, please contact Lindi Dornauf on (03) 6442 2385 or lindi.may.dornauf@decyp.tas.gov.au
